U.S. Fixed Income: The Window of Opportunity Remains Open

The Federal Reserve Board’s continued commitment to near zero interest rates at the short end of the curve was confirmed as the Federal Open Market Committee announced their decision to leave policy rates unchanged at their September meeting. They also indicated that exceptionally low levels for the federal funds rate may be warranted through mid-2015 in order to further support economic growth.

In addition, the decision to embark on another round of quantitative easing with QE3 was presented to the market. The Federal Reserve will purchase additional mortgage-backed securities at a pace of $40 billion per month in an open-ended program pledged to continue until the labor market has improved substantially.
